Key Management
Corporate officers and other key members of the management team collectively have more than 100 years of experience in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries. Their backgrounds cover all facets of these businesses, including product development, manufacturing, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, global sales and marketing, and customer service and support.
Christer O. Andreasson
Chairman of the Board & Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Andreasson came to Safety Syringes, Inc. with an extensive health care marketing and management background in the United States and abroad spanning almost 30 years.
Prior to his position at Safety Syringes, Inc., Mr. Andreasson was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for Equidyne Systems Inc., a developer and manufacturer of needle-free drug delivery systems.
Earlier in his career he founded and directed Global Entri, Inc., an international strategic marketing firm specializing in health care products. Mr. Andreasson has held other management positions including Vice President, Marketing and Sales for Camino Laboratories and Vice President, International Operations for IVAC Corporation, a subsidiary of Eli Lilly and Company.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. From 1965 to 1969 he was as a member of the Swedish National Rowing Team.
Peter Nolan
Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Nolan joins Safety Syringes Inc. with over 25 years of management experience in developing and implementing lean manufacturing/ operational excellence in global manufacturing operations in US, Europe and Asia.
Prior to joining Safety Syringes Inc. Mr. Nolan was corporate vice president of global operations with Advanced Medical Optics a $1 Billion global market leader in ophthalmic medical products.
Previous to AMO, Mr. Nolan spent 9 years with GN ReSound Corporation, a global leader in hearing aids. At GN ReSound, he held various roles including: senior vice president global operations and vice president/general manager of ReSound Ireland Ltd. where he started up a manufacturing operation from a greenfield site.
Prior to that Mr. Nolan spent 10 years with Wang Laboratories, based in Ireland, where he rapidly progressed in the organization and eventually became General Manager.
Earlier in his career Mr. Nolan held various manufacturing positions with Digital Equipment International B.V., Varian Instruments, Ltd., and Westinghouse Electronics Ltd.
Mr. Nolan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Production Engineering from the University of Limerick, Ireland.
Angela M. Smoley
Chief Financial Officer
Ms. Smoley is a CPA with over twelve years of experience in public and private accounting.
She work
ed at the firm of Coopers & Lybrand, LLP serving a variety of public and non-public clients. In addition to audits, she also participated in mergers and acquisitions, including Initial Public Offerings.
Ms. Smoley joined Howard Publications/Energy as the Assistant Vice-President of Administration. Her experience at Howard included corporate cash management, overseeing corporate financial statements and tax returns for over 35 domestic and foreign subsidiaries, and participation in several mergers, acquisitions and sales transactions.
Ms. Smoley holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of San Diego.
Mark A. Hassett
Executive Vice President
Mr. Hassett directs all functions of Marketing, Business Development and Key Account Management. He joined Safety Syringes Inc. with over 25 years of medical sales and marketing experience. He has 20 years of management/officer-level experience in the medical device industry.
Mr. Hassett's background ranges from small medical start-up firms to Fortune 500 companies, such as Siemens. Prior to joining Safety Syringes Inc., he was Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Venetec International, manufacturer of catheter securement products.
Mr. Hassett previously held officer-level positions with Medication Delivery Devices Inc. and Block Medical, and he was National Sales Manager at IVAC Corporation.
Mr. Hassett holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia State University.
William Campbell
Senior Vice President, Operations
Mr. Campbell brings over twenty years of multi-functional management encompassing operations, manufacturing and engineering in the medical device industry. Prior to joining Safety Syringes, Inc., he was Director of Operations for Gish Biomedical, which manufactures a complete line of Vastec Needles and Needle Protectors, along with cardio vascular medical devices primarily used in Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery.
Mr. Campbell's experience ranges from small medical start-up firms to Fortune 500 companies such as Baxter Laboratories. His manufacturing experience has been centered on both low and high volume operations. Mr. Campbell has directed the set up of new manufacturing operations for engineering design and development of medical devices used in Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery. In addition, he has directed the installation of complex capital equipment installed at worldwide facilities, in particular establishing a strategic business relationship throughout Asia. Mr. Campbell has a reputation for envisioning, initiating and implementing effective solutions to a myriad of operational and organizational issues. He has assembled high performance teams beneficial in an industry of rapidly changing technology.
Mr. Campbell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Pepperdine University.
Tom Westbye
Vice President, Technology Integration
Mr. Westbye has over 30 years experience in the medical device industry. He has extensive background in design engineering, biomaterials and injection molding technology. His previous medical experience also includes manufacturing management positions with River Medical, a start-up medical company that developed and manufactured disposable infusion pumps. He has also held a variety of positions with Puritan-Bennet, Warner Lambert, Bently Labs and Union Carbide. During his tenure with these organizations, Mr.Westbye was responsible for generating various patents and creative medical products.
Mr. Westbye holds a Polymer Engineering degree from the Technical Institute in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Suzanne Richardson
Vice President, Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance
Ms. Richardson is a Quality Assurance and Regualtory Affairs (QA/RA) professional with 25 years of experience in the field of medical devices.
Prior to her position with Safety Syringes, Inc., she worked in contract manufacturing for Avail Medical Products and MedSource Technologies in Mexico with customers such as Medtronic Vascular, Medtronic-Minimed, Boston Scientific Corporation, Johnson & Johnson and Smith & Nephew. Additionally, she consulted in QA/RA for 8 years for leading corporations with divisions in transition including: WRGrace/NMC, British Oxygen Company/Omeda, and Boston Scientific Corporation/Meadox.
She began her medical device career introducing new technologies to the market in small startups. Some of these are used in preclinical and clinical trials, IDEs, reclassifications, PMA submissions and post-approval quality assurance.
Ms. Richardson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Zoology from the University of California at Los Angeles.
Fred Field
Vice President, Research and Product Development
Mr. Field has over 18 years of medical device engineering experience, almost exclusively at start-up medical device companies. Prior to joining Safety Syringes, Inc., Mr. Field was Vice President of Engineering at Onux Medical, Inc., a company producing minimally invasive surgical devices where he contributed to the development of disposable and electronic infusion devices. Prior to that position, he was Manager of Bioengineering at River Medical, Inc. developing pre-filled disposable infusion devices. He has also held positions at other medical device companies including IVAC Medical Systems, Block Medical and the VA Medical Center in San Diego.
Mr. Field holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomechanics and a Master of Science degree in Applied Mechanics from the University of California, San Diego.
Alexander Jaksch
Vice President, Key Account Management
Mr. Jaksch joins Safety Syringes, Inc. with ten years of international marketing, marketing operations, and business development experience in the Life Sciences.
Before joining Safety Syringes, Jaksch established and served as Managing Director for doctorseyes LLC, a US subsidiary of a German-based imaging equipment provider to the dental and medical industries. His prior roles include key account management and new business development at Ignite Health, Zoomedia, Xerion Pharmaceuticals and Sudler & Hennessey. He brings extensive experience in managing numerous Pan-European and global pharmaceutical and medical device accounts including Fujisawa, Boehringer Ingelheim, Unilever and Medtronic Diabetes.
Mr. Jaksch earned his MBA at the University of California at Irvine and his MS Chemistry/Biochemistry at University of Freiburg, Germany.
Thomas R. Koning
Vice President, Key Account Management
Mr. Koning has over 20 years experience in the medical device industry and over 12 years management experience in Sales and Marketing.
Prior to joining Safety Syringes, Inc., Mr. Koning was Director of Sales for LMA North America, Inc. the market leader in laryngeal mask airways. One of his focus areas was establishing and implementing national agreements with group purchasing organizations and national distributors. Other experience includes national accounts, marketing, sales and human resources with Alaris Medical Systems, Inc. IVAC Corporation and Johnson & Johnson.
Mr. Koning holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from Hope College in Holland, Michigan.
