EU Council Directive 2010/32/EU adopted the Framework Agreement on prevention of sharp injuries in the hospital and healthcare sector concluded by unions (European Federation of Public Service Unions, EPSU) and hospital employers (European Hospital and Healthcare Employers' Association, HOSPEEM). The Directive will ask member states to implement legislation with minimum standards for preventing injuries to healthcare workers caused by sharps, including needles. The deadline for introduction of such measures is 11 May 2013.
Among others, the main purpose of this Directive is:
- to prevent workers' injuries caused by all medical sharps (including needle-sticks)
